What is Gas?

Gas is a social media service for young people that lets you interact with your friends by semi-anonymously answering polls that refresh every hour. You can choose pre-made poll questions, and then select your friends as the options. The questions posed on Gas are intended to be positive and designed to give users compliments and improve their self-esteem. Anyone can sign up, but the app is designed for high school students, and you can select your school to create a friends list composed only of your classmates.

In return for answering poll questions, you collect coins that allow you to see who answered certain questions about you. If you win a poll, a ‘Flame’ gets added to your profile. A subscription is also available, which unlocks additional features, including giving you greater visibility of who compliments you.

The tagline for the app is ‘find your crush’, so it is also designed to facilitate online connections. However, you can only interact with other users through polls and only with people you have accepted as friends. Gas does not allow direct messaging between users, even if you are friends.
