Social media self-defence
Some people are at greater risk of being the target of online abuse on social media, due to their higher public profile.
We offer free, short, and customised sessions to support people who use technology as part of their professional lives to strengthen their online safety. This includes:
- organisations and agencies with significant public exposure
- media organisations – journalists and content producers
- aspiring and current politicians and their staff
- school leaders
- elite, national, state or pathway athletes
- researchers and technologists
- high-profile people at risk of technology-facilitated gender-based violence.
Our presentations provide participants with an evidence-based understanding of the types of online abuse possible in their environment and the impacts on the individual, both personally and professionally.
We examine strategies and guidance for setting up social media platforms for increased safety, including proactive actions, de-escalation strategies and advice for reporting to eSafety.
We use de-identified case studies to examine common online abuse and effective responses. The process of reporting to eSafety is also explained.
The presentation integrates strategies for self-care to maintain wellbeing when targeted by online abuse and provides an accompanying resource to support participants beyond the presentation.
