Keeping your location private on Facebook

The images and status updates you post may reveal your location through location tagging, pictures with location tags and when you decide to check in at different places. There are things you can do if you prefer not to reveal your location for privacy or some other reason. Don't check into locations when you're updating your status. Facebook doesn't tag your location in posts unless you tagged it yourself. Don't include location information in photos. Facebook automatically strips out location and other data when photos are uploaded but you have the option to add a location to the post itself. You can also change the settings with the camera on your phone to make sure that the pictures you share don't include location information. This prevents revealing location information when you share photos in other ways like on a USB or through other social media sites. Watch our videos on turning off GPS and location services on mobile phones and tablets for more information. Tell your family and friends not to tag or check you in if you don't want to reveal your location. Our video on tagging and sharing on Facebook has more tips on how to control your location information. |
