What is Wickr?

Wickr Inc. produces three secure messaging and collaboration apps called Wickr Me, Wickr Pro and Wickr Enterprise. Wickr uses end-to-end encryption to provide secure messaging and collaboration tools with enhanced privacy features. It claims to have one of the strongest encryption systems in the world, allowing a suitable platform for exchanging sensitive financial, diplomatic and business information. For the general user, Wickr may be used for sending secure messages that don’t leave a data trail on either Wickr’s servers or on your personal device. The messages sent will between two people cannot be accessed by anyone except those two people and the messages eventually ‘destruct’.

Wickr Me is designed for general use and allows you to send encrypted text, picture, audio and video messages for free. The contents of your messages are never visible during transmission and can be set to auto-destruct or ‘burn-on-read’. You can link a phone number to your account to help contacts find you without knowing your Wickr ID, however your number or username is never known to Wickr.

Wickr Pro and Wickr Enterprise are professional platforms that organisations use to create secure networks for video and audio calls, messaging, screen sharing, file sharing and content storage. Wickr Pro networks are managed by an organisation’s IT administrator, who can invite up to 30 internal or external contacts to the platform for free. For larger organisations, there are a range of paid plans offered. Wickr Pro accounts use email addresses as usernames, allowing for account verification and password resets.

Platforms: Windows, Mac OSX, Linux, Android, iOS.
