What is RedNote?

RedNote is a short-form video sharing app similar to TikTok and Instagram. Like TikTok, RedNote features an infinite video scroll and includes social shopping. It also has live streaming features similar to Instagram Live. Some of its navigation is in English, but most of the content is in Mandarin.

You can watch and upload videos, live stream, send direct messages and make in-app purchases. You can share product reviews, lifestyle advice, personal stories and other types of content.

RedNote includes a ‘teen mode’, which can be enabled by parents and carers using a pin to restrict access to content that is not age-appropriate and impose time limits on daily use of the app.

RedNote or Xiaohongshu, which translates as ‘little red book’ is owned by Xingyin Information Technology and operated out of Shanghai in China.
