What is Facetune?

Facetune is a suite of photo and video editing apps that allow you to easily perform advanced image retouching on your mobile device. It removes the need to learn complex software and image-manipulation techniques – giving access to visual effects that were previously only available to professionals. Facetune processes these effects on your device using artificial intelligence (AI). This includes accessing other pictures in your image gallery if you allow it. 

The enhancement functions include smoothing, altering skin tone, changing facial structure and removing people or objects from an image’s background. There are also several pre-set filters. The intensity of each function or filter is controlled by a slider and there is a button to toggle before and after each effect. You can apply effects to existing photos or preview them live using the viewfinder. Once the photo or video edit is complete the file can be saved and used like any other image content. 

While the ease of use promotes creativity, some retouches are imperceptible to the average user, which can lead to unrealistic beauty expectations, and potentially issues with self-esteem, body dysmorphia and eating disorders.
