Live.ly is a video-streaming app that allows users to broadcast live video to people using Musical.ly. Live.ly is intended for people over the age of 13, based on the following content warning:
As with any live-streaming service, there are concerns about what users might see, what sort of information users may give out, and the potential for bullying or inappropriate comments from viewers.
The best way to ensure your information is protected is to make sure your security settings are enabled. This is set up solely through your Musical.ly account settings:
Go to the ‘Settings’ tab and click on ‘hide location’. This means that another user nearby cannot search for you, and you aren’t identifying your location via GPS.
For the highest level of protection, switch to ‘private account’.
Go to your profile using the head icon in the lower left corner of the screen, and then click on the gear icon in the upper right corner. Select ‘settings’ and scroll down to the ‘private account’ function. Private account means you will have to approve anyone who wishes to follow you and see your musicals.
When creating a video, be vigilant about the information you share—for example, wearing your school uniform will indicate what school you attend.
Users can block viewers who post inappropriate comments, and viewers can report broadcasters if they are streaming inappropriate content.
The app is free to download, however there are in app purchases.
