LIKE is a social-video networking app that allows users to create, edit and collaborate on video content utilising a suite of effects, stickers, music and popular film dialogue. Users can comment and share their location in real-time as they stream their videos.
The app, which has been likened to Musical.ly (now known as TikTok) and Snapchat, boasts approximately 200 million subscribers worldwide and 36.6 million active users each month. It is available in 23 languages and is popular with children and teenagers. All content created by users on the app is owned by the developers.
The developers rate this app as suitable for ages 16 to 17+ years in Australia. There is however, no age verification process during sign-up, making it readily accessible to all ages.
The app collects a large amount of personal information during the sign-up process, only some of which is optional. Aliases may be used but a verifiable phone number or email address is required to complete sign-up. Third party platforms such as Facebook, Google or Instagram can also be used to sign-up.
User accounts can be deleted by sending an email request to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you see or are the recipient of inappropriate content on this app, you can report the user in question and request that they be removed by emailing email@example.com.
If you are an Australian under the age of 18, and are unsatisfied with how your complaint has been handled, you can make a report to the Office of the eSafety Commissioner.
The app is free to download and install. In-app purchases are available once a user has joined the community. There are also opportunities for users to earn money during ‘prized events’. To collect earnings, users are asked to provide their bank details. Discretion is advised when providing any personal or financial information to a third party.
