Doki Doki Literature Club is a free-to-play psychological horror computer game that initially looks like a dating simulation about a high school boy pursuing different attractive girls. Despite starting out as an innocent and light-hearted dating simulation, the game quickly puts the player into deeply upsetting situations that can make them highly uncomfortable and constantly on edge.
At some point in the simulation a character takes their own life and the player is unable to do anything to prevent it. This content has been described as distressing, producing a warning before the game starts: “the game is not suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed”.
Doki Doki Literature club can be downloaded onto a computer with either macOS or Windows.

Users must confirm they are at least 13 years of age and that they consent to the exposure of ‘highly disturbing content’ before starting the game.
Although the game suggests that it is suitable content for players 13 years and over, it has been rated MA15+ in Australia due to strong violence.
The game asks for a player’s name to begin, but no additional information is required.
While there are no chat functions within the game, there are online communities where people who enjoy the Doki Doki Literature Club can chat.
While the game is free to play, players are encouraged to buy the Doki Doki Literature Club Fan Pack for $10. Members get a soundtrack, wallpapers and an art booklet.
